Train the Trainer – Automotive Electrification – Day 3 & 4 (Two day event)

Category:

17th January 2022 @ 9:00 am - 18th January 2022 @ 5:00 pm GMT

This is the 2 day face to face Train the Trainer course in Automotive Electrification and is day 3 & 4 of a four day programme.

This is ‘Day 3 & 4’ of a series of ‘Train the Trainer’ courses in automotive electrification which will enable those attending to equip themselves with the skills and understanding to deliver the following units directly to their own learners:

  • Automotive Electric Vehicle Charging
  • Diagnostics in Automotive Electric Vehicle Systems and Batteries
  • Isolation/lockout and re-energising of Automotive Electric Vehicles
  • Repairs, Rework and High Voltage Component Replacement on Automotive Electric Vehicles
  • Managing Prototype Builds

The course is delivered face to face by one of the tutors designing the training materials for the units.

This is a level 3 course.

ESP units at Level 3 cover core and foundational aspects of a topic to provide an introduction and overview of a topic. Units are accessible to learners who have studied STEM subjects at this or lower levels, but are also suitable for learners with higher level qualifications in other STEM areas/disciplines seeking an introduction to emerging technologies.

Knowledge : Has factual, procedural and theoretical knowledge and understanding of a subject or field of work to complete tasks and address problems that while well-defined, may be complex and non-routine. Can interpret and evaluate relevant information and ideas. Is aware of the nature of the area of study or work. Is aware of different perspectives or approaches within the area of study or work.

Skills : Identify, select and use appropriate cognitive and practical skills, methods and procedures to address problems that while well-defined, may be complex and non-routine. Use appropriate investigation to inform actions. Review how effective methods and actions have been.

This ‘Day 3 & 4’ are the third and fourth of four days of Train the Trainer for Automotive Electrification and we encourage all those attending to complete the other two days. These are also available on Eventbrite and are run on the following days / location.

Day 1 – 11th of January (on-line event)

Day 2 – 12th of January (on-line event)

Please note that Day 3 & 4 will be repeated at New Durham College on the 20th and 21st of January.

In order to ensure that you are suitable for the course, and to enable the tutor/ trainer to be made aware of your experience in Automotive Electrification you’ll be sent a short survey to complete once you have registered for this Train the Trainer event. Please complete this within two days of registering on these Train the Trainer courses, it can be accessed here

The Train the Trainer courses include an element of pre-reading which will you’ll be given access to on the week commencing 20th of December. There’s also a pre-reading self assessment test on the 5th of January 2022.

An outline of the five units covered by this Train the Trainer event can be found below:

Automotive Electric Vehicle Charging

• With the introduction of various ‘electrified’ vehicles, this unit will give the learner an understanding of the types of chargers / charging systems in use.

• The attendee will be able to understand the specific safety issues relating to both high and low voltage charging systems

• By the end of the unit the attendee will also be able to know how to test a customer facing, high voltage charging interface functions.

• Also, being able to diagnose basic high voltage charging faults and make recommendations for rectification.

Diagnostics in Automotive Electric Vehicle Systems and Batteries

• With the increased utilisation of batteries, the manufacturing, industry and transportation sectors are rapidly deploying high energy output sources which has led to increased incidents and accidents. Providing battery health and safety education in the safe use of energy sources is absolutely paramount.

• This training module deals with the safe use, handling and operation of the batteries, battery management systems and diagnosis tools.

• It provides the learner with the knowledge and understanding of the diagnostics process and the safety aspects associated when working with battery modules.

Isolation/lockout and re-energising of Automotive Electric Vehicles

• With the use of ‘electrified’ vehicles growing, this course will give the attendee an awareness of how to carry out the isolation and lockout of a high voltage automotive system. Providing health and safety education in the safe use of automotive high voltage systems is absolutely paramount.

• This training module deals with the safe use, handling and operation of the energising system, the attendee will be able to understand the two systems in use (both 12v and HV – High Voltage) and be able to safely approach and isolate both systems.

• The attendee will also demonstrate how to re-energise the systems once any work has been carried out.

Repairs, Rework and High Voltage Component Replacement on Automotive Electric Vehicles

• Repair, rework and fault finding will be the stable of most ‘electrified’ vehicle workshops / OEM factory vehicle rectification. Providing health and safety education in the safe repairs and re-work of high voltage systems is highly important.

• In this unit the attendee will gain a knowledge and understand about how to carry out repairs safely on high energy automotive systems.

• They will learn about the correct use of tools and manufacturers (SOPs) standard operating processes.

• The attendee also being able to log and record information detailing a ‘live’ repair in line with OEM and motor trade guidelines.

Managing Prototype Builds

• Managing the build, development, testing and fault finding of a prototype electric vehicles is a task of the highest order. You have all the responsibilities of a vehicle body structure, drivetrain, steering and braking systems coupled with a motor and inverter linked to a High voltage battery and system. Resource allocation involves both automotive and the electrical sector – combined, also inclusive of new ‘start up business’ i.e. EV component providers.

• The attendee on this unit will learn about engineering project time scale and budget management

• By the end of the unit they will have the know how to manage a build and team, and to complete a prototype assembly.
